EASTERN PACIFIC OCEAN (EPO)

About 13.5% of the global tuna catch is from the Eastern Pacific Ocean. That's about 590,000 tonnes according to preliminary estimates.

SKIPJACK

    Catches of EPO Skipjack were about 296,000 or 51% of the regions catch in 2008.
    
The average size of EPO Skipjack is close to 3kg (6.6 lbs).
    
Status of the Stocks

YELLOWFIN

    Catches of EPO yellowfin totaled roughly 187,000 tonnes or 32% of the region's catch in 2008.
    
The average size of EPO Yellowfin ranges from 3.5kg (7.7 lbs) to 40kg (88 lbs) – depending on the fishing method used.
    
Status of the Stocks

BIGEYE

    Catches of EPO bigeye totaled about 95,000 or 16% of the region's catch in 2008.
    
The average size of EPO Bigeye ranges from 8kg (17.5 lbs) to 60kg (132 lbs) – depending on the fishing method used.
