Our “snapshots” identify best practices that Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (RFMOs) should follow to manage tuna fisheries sustainably.

In detailed tables, the snapshots compare tuna RFMO progress in implementing the practices.

For a high-level comparison across the five RFMOs, see our Tuna RFMO Best Practice Performance “scorecard” below. We also publish companion “best-practices reports” on these topics and “RFMO progress” infographics.

ISSF prepared this position statement in October 2020 for consideration at the 24th session of the Indian Ocean Tuna Commission (IOTC), which will take place November 2-6, 2020. The statement covers topics in these categories: tuna conservation and management; management procedures (harvest strategies); FAD and supply vessel management; monitoring, control, and surveillance (MCS); and compliance processes.

The statement also includes ISSF’s top “asks” or requests of IOTC, along with a list of ISSF’s global priorities for all RFMOs.

A French translation of the statement is available.
