Document: ISSF 2026-06: Characteristics of Longline Fleets Registered in tRFMOs as of June 2026

This report presents a comprehensive assessment of the characteristics of longline fishing fleets registered in the five tuna Regional Fisheries Management Organizations (tRFMOs) — ICCAT, IOTC, IATTC, WCPFC, and CCSBT — using authorized vessel records available as of June 2026.

Following the harmonization of heterogeneous RFMO registries, missing vessel attributes were reconstructed using a combination of deterministic conversions, statistical regression models, and machine-learning imputation techniques to generate a consolidated dataset containing standardized information on vessel dimensions and fishing capacity.

The analysis focused on key structural characteristics, including length overall (LOA), gross tonnage (GT), fish hold volume (FHV), and fish carrying capacity (FCC), with particular emphasis on the role of large-scale longline vessels (≥24 m LOA) in global tuna fisheries.
