Silky shark (Carcharhinus falciformis)

One of the most abundant species of shark in the pelagic zone that is commonly found in tropical waters over the edge of the continental shelf down to 50 m. Although not targeted by tropical tuna purse seine fisheries, silky sharks are of special concern in tuna fisheries management, since they make up over 90% of the species caught incidentally, especially around floating objects like FADs.
